“Lyme Time with the Tick Chicks” Episode 92: Lyme Misdiagnosis and Loss with author and CEO of Galaxy Diagnostics Nicole Bell

April 11, 2025

Lyme Misdiagnosis and Loss with author and CEO of Galaxy Diagnostics and author Nicole Bell

Many of us have had Lyme disease misdiagnosed as something else, and that was the case with Nicole Bell’s husband as he was given the Rapidly Progressive Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia diagnosis instead of Neurological Lyme disease.  Nicole and her husband Russ were both in biomed engineering fields and although this diagnosis seemed logical due to his symptoms, they suspected it wasn’t the full story.  As Nicole says, “It’s a life and death experience if you get the wrong diagnosis.”  We talk about their journey in this episode of THE LYME TIME PODCAST.

They both felt as though precious time was lost because of missing data for Russ.  He went through PICC lines, potent Alzheimer drugs, antibiotics, negative tests, and many mental health challenges and eventually his brain could not heal.  Through her detailed journals, Nicole went on to write a book called What Lurks in the Woods.  Because she was involved in the medical field, she went through the painstaking process of testing and researching his brain after his passing.  It is astonishing what she uncovered.

I hope you will listen to Nicole’s verbal account of how she turned her pain into advocacy by eventually becoming the CEO of Galaxy Diagnostics.  This full-circle process has given her a newfound mission and passion to be helping others get answers much faster than she did.  Galaxy is leading the charge in constant updates on gathering data for their clients, practitioners, and physicians.

If not for these stories, our own searching and pain might be endless.  Nicole is one of my heroes.  I will always and forever think of her when I visualize those who have truly dedicated their life’s work to make strides in the Lyme world.  Her story is everything.

In good health,
