I recently had the opportunity to talk with Northwoods Tick Control, based in Cumberland Maine and found out some of the best ways to control ticks in the yard. It’s actually not difficult and actually fairly necessary if you have pets that go in and out, live near wooded areas, have leafy or wood piles, or are near wildlife.

Tick season is all year long…but they just can’t stay away from leafy piles so for many of us that means extra precautions in fall. Here are a few tips for enjoying the great outdoors whether gardening, fishing, hunting, camping or just walking your dog!

What is an easy way to protect my outdoor living space from ticks? Did you know that a very common way for tick transmission in your yard is through “hitching rides” with mice? Mice carry an abundance of ticks around your grass, shrubs, leaves, wood piles, mulch, rock walls and flower beds.

This product should ALWAYS be on hand, no matter where you live. This Permethrin spray is a miracle against ticks, chiggers, mosquitoes, and Zika virus. In fact, it can be applied to clothing and will be active through 6 washes! It is the same as 1005 DEET and is completely odorless (nice for hunters).
